Board duties:

This committee is comprised on interested stakeholders that will report back to the Board of County Commissioners within 18 months of appointment, of any additional protections that are needed for new or expanded mines in the Green Swamp Area of Critical State Concern. This task will involve review of the County’s Comprehensive Plan policies, Land Development Regulations and approval procedures related to mining.

Membership:

The members of the Mining Committee are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

Member types:

One (1) resident from an Environmental Advocacy Organization;
One (1) member from the Water Management District or Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Mining and Minerals Regulation Program;
One (1) member from the Peat Mining Industry;
One (1) member from the Sand Mining Industry;
One (1) member from the Mining Industry Association;
One (1) member who is a Professional Geologist or Hydrologist;
One (1) member who is a professional Environmental Consultant.

Term length: 18 months
Financial disclosure: Not required
Meeting times: Every 4th Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m.
