John Braun
UF/IFAS Lake County Master Gardener

John managed a 200 acre Sod Farm in the Pittsburgh area while taking a two year Turfgrass Management course at Penn State University. For 30 years he managed cemeteries starting with a 100 acres, hundred plus ear old cemetery in Pittsburgh. John then moved to Atlanta where he managed two cemeteries there and one in Savannah owned by SCI and later one of their cemeteries in West Des Moines, IA. Before retiring, he worked for Agrecycle Inc in Pittsburgh, a company that produced compost from yard and food waste.

Steve Guch

Steve Guch
Master Gardener Coordinator, UF/IFAS Lake County Extension

Steve Guch received degrees in physics from Dartmouth College and the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.  Following training in Naval nuclear reactors, he served as Main Propulsion Officer aboard a nuclear powered guided missile frigate during 3 Vietnam tours.  After finishing Navy service at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, where he developed lasers for nuclear fusion, he pursued a career in R&D, engineering, and executive management at a succession of defense companies, including Hughes Aircraft, GTE Government Systems, Litton Systems, and Northrop Grumman, retiring in 2004.  He taught laser physics as adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida, and became a Master Gardener to pursue his interests in the complexities of horticultural sciences.

Sudi Hipsley

Sudi Hipsley
UF/IFAS Lake County Master Gardener

Sudi has been a Lake County Master Gardener since Spring 1997. After moving to Leesburg in 1990, Hipsley started to grow everything in her yard: Vegetable, Antique Roses, Butterfly Garden, and a few other variety of plants. But for the last 12 years she abandoned all those and now focuses on bromeliads and gingers.

Brooke Moffis

Brooke Moffis
Master Gardener Coordinator, UF/IFAS Lake County Extension

Brooke Moffis is the Residential Horticulture Agent with UF/IFAS Exension in Lake County. She currently manages the Lake County Master Gardeners and Discovery Gardens located in Tavares. She previously worked as the Urban Horticulture Agent in Sumter County and in hydroponics at the Land Pavilion at Epcot. She earned her Bachelor’s in Horticulture from Tennessee Tech and her Master’s in Entomology from University of Florida.

Mia Wilchcombe

Mia Wilchcombe
UF/IFAS Extension Lake County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent

Mia Wilchcombe received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida. Soon after, she completed a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science from the University of South Florida. Mia is the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent with UF/IFAS Lake County Extension. She provides research-based programming related to nutrition, health, food safety, and financial management. Mia is passionate about providing quality, educational programs that will equip Lake County Residents with the necessary knowledge and skills to improve their overall health and wealth.

Jim Davis

Jim Davis
UF/IFAS Extension, Horticulture Agent, Sumter County

Jim serves as a Master Gardener Coordinator and Florida Master Naturalist Instructor. He holds an M.S. Entomology and Nematology and  B.S. in Environmental Horticulture from The University of Florida. As an extension agent, his role is to educate Floridians on science-based, environmentally friendly landscaping practices and encourage residents to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources by applying Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ principles.

Volunteer UF/IFAS certified Master Gardener

Steve Turnipseed is a retired chemical engineer.and a Florida Water Star Accredited Professional. He currently serves as president of The Villages Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society. Steve teaches workshops and gives presentations on irrigation water conservation and conversion of turf grass lawns into native plant landscapes and is a regular newspaper contributor and various online media sources.

Ed Bull

Ed Bull
UF/IFAS Extension, Sumter County Horticulture Agent

Ed Bull began growing roses at 8 years old with his mother and has done so in states including New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Indiana and Florida. He is a Consulting Rosarian with The American Rose Society and boasts 100 rose bushes in his yard. He has a B.S. in Accounting from Siena Collage and an MBA in Management from RPI.

Kelly Greer
UF/IFAS Extension Agent, Orange County

Residential Horticulture Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ agent for UF/IFAS Extension Orange County Kelly E. Greer holds a B.S. in Agriculture with a major in Horticulture from the University of Missouri Columbia M.A. Management and Leadership Webster University. Her previous experience includes working as the Horticulture Supervisor for SeaWorld’s Discovery Cove.
