Pet License Information
The cost of Pet Licenses in Lake County depends upon a number of factors, including whether the pet has been spayed or neutered, the type of vaccine administered, and whether the owner qualifies for a Senior Discount. If an animal is spayed or neutered, the County License costs less. This cost savings is afforded to the pet owner since that owner is being responsible and not contributing to the pet overpopulation problem in Lake County.
A one-year County License for a sterilized dog or cat that received a one-year Rabies vaccination is $8.00, and for a three-year Rabies vaccination, the License is $20.00 for a sterilized pet. The License period may correspond to the effective period of the Rabies vaccine (1 or 3 years). When the Rabies vaccination is due again, it should also be time to renew your pet's County License. Licenses cannot be valid longer than the expiration of your pet's Rabies vaccination. You may purchase a one-year Pet License for a pet that received a three-year Rabies vaccine, but you will need to purchase two more licenses each year as the License expires.
If an animal has not been sterilized and has gotten a one-year vaccine, the one-year County License is $20.00 and for a three-year vaccine, the three-year License is $50.00. If a Senior Citizen, age 62 or over, has a sterilized pet that was given the one-year Rabies vaccine, the County License is $5.00, and the County License for a three-year vaccine costs $10.00. For unsterilized pets, a Senior Citizen would pay $10.00 for the one-year License and $25.00 for the three-year.
If a County License tag is lost, a replacement costs $4.00. There are some cases where a dog is exempt for medical reasons from getting the Rabies vaccination, and a County License is still required. Please contact Lake County Animal Services about this (352-343-9688), or see the Fees page for additional information.
