Family and Consumer Science agents, offer educational programs in:

• Affordable housing;

• Food safety;

• Food and nutritional education;

• Parenting and nurturing;

• Family finances;

• Volunteer leadership development; and

• Environmentally friendly housing.

Educational programs reach County residents through newsletters, learn-by-mail, special classes and events.

Specialized classes are conducted for senior adults, families and individuals. A quarterly newsletter, Lake Reflections, provides timely updates in all areas of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Programs include:

• Classes in home care and maintenance for prospective homeowners;

• "Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?" disbursement of non-titled property;

• Take Control to Reduce Your Cancer Risk;

• Cholesterol Control; and

• Success and the Single Parent.

Nutrition, health and food safety education provides information and practical tips about lifestyle changes, which can reduce the risk for obesity, heart disease, stroke, cancer and food-borne illness.
