The Children's Services Council is a 15-member advisory board to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners (BCC). The Children's Services Council consists of: two members from each of the five districts; three at-large members; one representative each of the following agencies: Florida Department of Children Families; Lake County School Board and a non-voting BCC liaison. Children's Services Council members are appointed by the BCC and serve a two-year term. The BCC liaison is appointed to a one-year term.
The Children's Services Council advises the BCC about children's issues in Lake County, assists with strategic planning for children and family services, and provides a forum to exchange ideas and promote partnerships among service providers and citizens. The Children's Services Council meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Lake County Agriculture Center Auditorium located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares FL.
The Children's Services Council also makes recommendations to the BCC about the use of County grant funding following the Children's Services Council request for proposal (RFP) evaluation and review process. For more information about grant opportunities, click here.
Staff from the Department of Community Services assists the Children's Services Council with providing service providers and the community with support in areas that include:
- Resource and referral assistance to families needing services;
- Resource sharing with Lake County service providers;
- A current, comprehensive directory of service providers;
- Technical support to community agencies such as program development, fund-raising guidance, etc; and
- Legislative updates and recommendations regarding children and families.
