Web Soil Survey

The Web Soil Survey (WSS) allows the creation of soil maps in three basic steps. It provides agricultural producers, agencies, Technical Service Providers and others electronic access to relevant soil and related information needed to make land-use and management decisions.

The WSS provides:

• An alternative to traditional hardcopy publication;
• The means for quicker delivery of information;
• Electronic access to full soil survey report content;
• Access to the most current data; and
• Allows customers to get just the information they want.

Step 1: Define your area of interest (AOI)
Navigate to your address or county. View and zoom to the area you are interested in. Use the toolbar icon “AOI” to select your acreage with a polygon or rectangle tool.

Step 2: View and print your soil map.
Click on the “Soil Map” tab, click view to look at the soil map, then file and print.

Step 3: Explore your soil information
Click on the “Soil Data Explorer” tab to view all the available options of soil information.

Soil Survey Book or Compact Disc

The Soil Survey Report, Maps and Interpretations, Lake County, Florida book or CD is
available for $20, plus $4 shipping. These are a set compiled in 1971 as part of a
soil survey by the Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service (now known as
Natural Resources Conservation Service) and the University of Florida Agricultural
Experiment Station. It is not the official, current information that is available online.

Historical Aerial Maps

Historical aerial maps are available to view for the following years: 1958, 1966, 1970, and 1979. Please call the office to make an appointment and provide section, township, and range of the property. Some years do not cover all of Lake County.
