 Keg Registration Ordinance
Print Page Email PageSave Link

On Feb. 19, 2008, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved a "Keg Registration" ordinance, which went into effect on May 1, 2008.

The ordinance requires vendors selling kegs (four or more gallons) for off-premises consumption to place a keg registration tag on all kegs to be traced if the contents are used illegally. This ordinance requires persons who purchase kegs to sign a statement stating that they will not furnish beer to underage persons and present two forms of identification. The ordinance makes it illegal to possess an unregistered keg in Lake County.

The ordinance was proposed by Lake County Shared Services Network and Safe Climate Coalition of Lake County in an effort to curtail underage drinking. At the time of the ordinance passing, it was the only one of its kind in the State of Florida.
