On Feb. 19, 2008, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved a "Keg Registration" ordinance,
which went into effect on May 1, 2008.
The ordinance requires
vendors selling kegs (four or more gallons) for off-premises consumption to place a keg
registration tag on all kegs to be traced if the contents are used illegally. This ordinance
requires persons who purchase kegs to sign a statement stating that they will not furnish
beer to underage persons and present two forms of identification. The ordinance makes it
illegal to possess an unregistered keg in Lake County.
Yes, the form must be completely filled out for everyone. The ordinance states that the purchaser is required to produce a valid driver’s license; or state, federal or military identification card for the first form of identification and a second form of identification, which has an embossed or typed name.
The vendor must refuse to make the sale. A blank or unsigned keg registration form or a keg without a tag could subject the vendor or the customer, or both, to criminal charges.
A correctly completed keg registration form and tagged keg is prima facie evidence of innocence and a defense to any prosecution for sale to a person under age of 21 (FS 562.11). In addition, the vendor will help to reduce the number of unlawful purchases of keg beer for underage persons by adults.

No. As of May 1, 2008, all retail sales of kegs must be made with a keg registration tag attached and a completed keg registration form. It is incumbent upon the retailer, to have enough forms and tags on hand to sell keg beer and comply with the law. Vendors should consider how much keg beer they sell, the time of the year and all other factors that will go into planning their sales needs.
Vendors are required to retain copies of all keg registration forms for a period of one year from the date of purchase. All law enforcement officers have a right to inspect and examine these records to ensure that the ordinance is being followed.
Keg registration tags are issued from the Public Records Center, Recording Division, located at 122 E. Main St. in Tavares. Keg tags are serial numbered, packaged in bundles of 100 and are issued by number to each licensed location. Each vendor, as a licensed location, must visit the Public Records Center to obtain the tags and forms for his or her business. Vendors must know their official vendor name, liquor license number, business address and business phone number.
