First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit
The Senate has voted on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2009 to extend and expand a popular tax credit for homebuyers that
was scheduled to expire Nov. 30. The House is expected to schedule a quick vote on the bill as early as November 5, 2009 as
part of a package that also extends unemployment benefits for people out of work more than a year. The White House
indicated that the President will sign the legislation.

Housing Choice Voucher Application
The Lake County Housing Agency has been approved through the Florida Housing Finance Commission to administer the funds for FHOP. The FHOP strategy is designed to provide subordinate down payment assistance loans to first time homebuyers for owner-occupied primary residences, which can be repaid by the income tax refund the homebuyer is entitled to under the First Time Homebuyer Credit.

This program assists low-income households with the down payment and closing costs. Homes purchased may be existing or new construction. The applicant must be eligible to obtain a mortgage through a participating lender. The source of funding is through State House Initiatives Partnership (SHIP). This program helps low-income households finance repairs to their home. The house must be owner-occupied and be the primary residence. Mobile homes do not qualify. Section 8 Rental Voucher program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A rental subsidy is paid directly to the landlord by the housing agency on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program. Eligibility for a rental voucher is determined based on the total annual gross income and family size. Applications are only accepted when the waiting list is open. Lake County annually receives Community Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
