The Economic Development & Tourism Division is responsible for a host of functions to promote and help strengthen the local tourism industry and business community.
Tourism operations are funded by resort tax collections and are used to help fund the development of local events through sponsorships and advertising campaigns. The Office also assists organizations coordinating events by providing essential support services, such as printing of programs, promotional mailings and media marketing. These activities generate capacity building for events, increase collections in the resort tax and result in economic benefits to all of Lake County.
Developing partnerships in the community is extremely important to the operations of the Office. In 2006, the Office partnered with Lake-Sumter Community College and the National Training Center for the construction of a large sports facility on the South Lake Campus of the College. This facility is expected to be an asset in advancing sporting activities in Lake County. The Office also recently partnered with the City of Leesburg to construct the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
