• Zoning Clearance (obtained from zoning, located on the fifth floor of the Administration Building)
• A current tax receipt or property record card with full legal description and current owner's name. ( A recorded deed may be required to show current ownership)
• Detailed directions to the jobsite
• Job Value
• Notice of Commencement (PDF) (If the value of the job is more than $2,500)
• Two sets of construction plans (signed & sealed by a Florida registered architect or engineer)
• Two plot plans (show lot dimensions, location of any and all structures, water bodies and distances to property lines)
• Two site specific plans (showing deck area, pool size, depths and distances from house and lot lines).

The following will be checked during plan review:

• Type of entrapment prevention system used (this must be identified and shown).
• Sealed engineering for vent pipe system for entrapment prevention, if used.
• Retaining wall details must be sealed, if used.
• Sealed pool steel angle of repose details must be provided where required.
• Sealed underpinning details for excavation in any structures' angle of repose, if needed.
  

• Florida sealed engineering for a vent piping system that relieves the vacuum to less than 4.5 inches of mercury in 3 seconds or less. Details will list dimensions and installation specifications and calculations;
• An approved vacuum relief device designed to meet IAPMO IGC 160-2001a; or
• Other approved means

These devices can be easily and quickly installed on any existing or new swimming pool or spa and provide two "layers of protection."

Any and all pool barriers must meet the following requirements:

• Will be minimum 48 inches above grade and be located no farther than the pool perimeter, which is defined as edge of the deck around the pool.
• The barrier must not be "climb-able" and meet the spacing requirements of FBC 424.2.17.1.1 through 424.2.17.1.7.
• Removable barriers must be permanently attached at one end to the host structure.
• Barrier must be 20 inches from water's edge in accessible areas and away from structures that can be used to climb over the barrier .
• When used, access gates must be self-closing, self-latching and swing away from the pool's edge .
• Gate release mechanism must be located minimum 54 inches above grade on the access gate .
• The barrier shall have no opening greater than 1/2 inch within 18 inches of the latching device.

Where the wall of the dwelling is part of the pool barrier, it will meet one of the following:

• All doors from the house with direct access to the pool will be self-closing, self-latching with a positive mechanical latch/locking device a minimum of 54 inches above grade. All windows with bottom sills less than 48 inches above floor surface will be alarmed or fixed glass.
• Windows with bottom sills less than 48 inches above the floor surface and all doors providing direct access for the home to the pool shall be equipped with an exit alarm meeting UL2017 specifications with a 85 dB rating at 10 feet and is either hard wired or a plug-in type. The device shall have a maximum 15-second deactivation switch, with the alarm and switch located a minimum of 54 inches above grade.

The following will be inspected at the Pool Steel/Ground inspection:

• All steel grounded with minimum #8 copper wire;
• Electrical connections at "wet niche" (pool lights) can only be protected with a listed potting compound ;
• Pool steel inspected for proper spacing and laps;
• Pool steel checked for elevation/clearances;
• Soil checked for vegetation and drainage;
• Plumbing piping pressure tested to 35 PSI. including vent piping, if used;
• Safety fences for pool excavation;
• Underpinning for foundation with sealed plans; and
• Minimum of two suction inlets that are a minimum of 3 feet apart or located on different planes. They must be interconnected to work simultaneously

The following will be checked at Final Inspection:

• Anti-Vortex drain covers inspected to meet Standard ANSI/ASME A 112.19.8M;
• Cleaner suction inlets must have permanently installed self-closing flapper valves (skimmers are exempt);
• Above ground pools have pool's edge 48 inches above grade with a removable ladder or steps;
• Above ground pools may have a 48 barrier above pool edge with removable ladder or steps;
• All metal within 5 feet of pool edge MUST be bonded;
• All pool screen enclosures bonded ;
• Pool pumps must be bonded with disconnects at motor;
• Pump size must be same as required for engineered vent pipe system, if used;
• GFCI protected outlet must be provided between 10 and 20 feet from pool edge and must be within the screen enclosure area if present; and
• Pool/Spa will have an approved safety cover per ATSM F11346.91 or meet barrier requirements. REMEMBER - No Barrier, No Final!

The following was included upon adoption of the 2002 Florida Building Code.

• All windows within 60 inches of pool's edge and bottom edge of glass is less than 60 inches above the deck are required to be safety glass
