Public Safety - Fire Rescue - Administration

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Police or Fire Services Administration or a related field. Ten years of progressively responsible experience managing a public safety function including management of first responders is required. Management experience in a same or larger sized organization is preferred.
A comparable amount of directly related experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.
Requires a valid Florida driver's license.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Masters Degree in public administration, fire services administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university with ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in providing fire protection, rescue and emergency medical service, five (5) years of which have been in a supervisory or managerial position with a rank equivalent to a Battalion Chief or above.
Assists the Public Safety Director in managing all aspects of the Public Safety Department and to serve as the Public Safety Director if the Director is absent or unavailable. Under general direction of the Public Safety Director, the Deputy Public Safety Director is responsible for managing multiple divisions of the Public Safety Department, including Administration, Communications Technologies, Emergency Management and Fire Rescue. The Deputy Public Safety Director has extensive latitude for decision-making, planning, and implementing strategies and action plans for programs within their designated area of responsibility. The Deputy Public Safety Director participates in planning, developing policy, and resolving challenges and issues within the Public Safety Department as a whole, and particularly in their area of assignment.
The Deputy Public Safety Director is responsible for fiscal management, including developing and administering the budget within their assigned areas. Work in this position requires a wide breadth of executive level managerial knowledge, skills and abilities. The Deputy Public Safety Director receives general supervision from the Public Safety Director who reviews and evaluates work performance through conferences, reports, and overall results achieved. The Deputy Public Safety Director currently works a standard 40-hour work week and is subject to emergency call-back and duty chief responsibilities. This position also provides information to the media and the public and addresses various community groups as requested.
