This policy pertains to the placement of geocaches within the boundaries of Lake County parks. All geocaches placed on Lake County parks will be by permit only.

  1. Persons wishing to place a cache must file a geocache placement permit to be approved by the geocache program manager prior to placement.

  2. Location of the cache must be approved by the geocache program manager or designated staff member.

  3. Cache container must be clear, unless otherwise authorized, where the contents are visible from the outside. All caches must be identified as a geocache with permit number, on the outside of the container.

  4. Items placed in caches cannot include food, alcohol, drugs of any kind, weapons, explosives, adult items or any other item that would be deemed as dangerous or inappropriate for citizens of all ages.

  5. Inappropriate items will be removed.

  6. The person named on the application is responsible for the care and maintenance of the cache. Parks & Trails requests the cache to be inspected monthly.

  7. If the cache is found to be in poor condition, the applicant will be notified to remove or temporarily archive the cache until repairs can be made.

  8. All laws, rules and regulations of the Lake County Parks & Trails Division will be in effect and must be strictly followed at all times.

  9. Any damage to or alteration of park facilities or natural features will result in a charge for damages commensurate with cost of repairs or replacement.

  10. Should the person on the application move out of the area or no longer wishes to be responsible for his or her cache, the cache is to be archived or adopted by another geocacher. The Parks & Trails Division will be notified and the person wishing to adopt the cache must file a geocache placement application.

  11. The Lake County Parks & Trails Division reserves the right to rescind a permit or archive a cache at anytime necessary.
