Annual tree giveaway to be held in honor of Arbor Day
In honor of Arbor Day, the Lake Soil & Water Conservation District is giving away bare-root tree seedlings at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19. The event, held in partnership with the Florida Forest Service, will be hosted at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Center Discovery Gardens Classroom, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.

Lake County creates litter-reporting app as part of the Keep Lake Beautiful initiative
Lake County’s Geographic Information Services (GIS) Division, in conjunction with Keep Lake Beautiful, a volunteer organization, has created the Litter Reporter app allowing citizens to report and pinpoint areas of litter on a map for easy monitoring. This simple mobile application, within the county’s Crowdsource Reporter, can be found online at http://gis.lakecountyfl.gov/crowdsource/.

The first is on Friday, July 17 from 7:30 – 11 a.m. at PEAR Park’s Wildlife Conservation Area, 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg and the second is on Saturday, July 18 from 7:30 – 11 a.m. at Ferndale Preserve, 19220 County Road 455, Ferndale.
