This stunning site offers an overlook of the North Shore Restoration and Lake Apopka sitting 132’ above sea level,  just a short distance from Sugarloaf Mountain (The highest point in peninsular Florida at 312’), and located along the State Designated Green Mountain Scenic Byway. Amenities include restrooms, drinking fountain, bicycle pump, bike racks, doggie waste station, trash cans, benches, pavilion, educational kiosks and signage, bird and bee boxes, and the observation tower. The trail (when completed in 2015) will connect to the rest of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail and allow users to trail the ~18 miles across the North Shore to Magnolia Park in Orange County.

In addition to the sites scenic beauty it is an amazing location for birding and butterfly watching with nearly 100 species of birds already observed and nearly 20 species of butterflies. Visitors should watch for Bald Eagles, Short-tailed Hawks, Swallow-tailed Kites, and numerous songbirds during appropriate times of the year. Also native plant enthusiasts can enjoy the more than 5000 native plants added to the site including more than 100 rescued prior to construction. To see recent bird and butterfly sightings check out eBird and eButterfly.

The site is leased to Lake County from SJRWMD and was built with a matching grant that was applied for by the Green Mountain Scenic Byway Committee.
