Job Summary
Uses the truth to present the defendant in a positive light. Before court, defense attorneys interview the defendant to learn the circumstances surrounding the case. They also review police incident reports, witness statements, and intake summary sheets to prepare a well organized case that is supported by evidence. They are responsible for preparing opening statements, organizing a line of questioning that will elicit positive responses from the defendant, objecting to opposing counsel's statements when necessary and developing a closing argument that will discourage the jury from giving a harsh sentence. Training will be provided.
