Q. What hours is the facility open?
A. Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (no telephone service on Saturday)
Q. If my pet is lost, how do I look for it?
A. If a pet is missing, there is always a chance that it has been impounded. Owners of missing pets are encouraged to visit the shelter and look for their animal.
Q. What kind of animals do you have at the Animal Services facility?
A. Animal Services offers adoptions of dogs/cats and occasionally ferrets, guinea pigs, etc., and farm animals.
Q. Is low-cost spay/neuter available to Lake County citizens?
A. Currently, Animal Services offers reduced cost sterilization for animals adopted from the Lake County Shelter.
Q. I already have a tag for my dog. Why do I have to get one from the County?
A. A County tag is not only a registration, but also a means for getting a pet home if it is lost, or injured.
Q. How much does a Lake County Animal License cost?
A. $5 for a sterilized dog/cat
$11 for intact dogs/cats
Q. Can I give my animal the rabies vaccination myself?
A. No. A licensed veterinarian is the only one who can administer the rabies vaccination to pets.
Q. What can I do about cats on my property?
A. A cat trap may be obtained from Animal Services for nuisance cats. Animal Services will respond to remove the animal upon notification.
Q. What can I do about a dog that barks all of the time?
A. First, contact the owner and discuss the situation to see if the problem can be resolved. If the nuisance continues, call Animal Services and provide the address where the nuisance dog lives.
