The realignment will consist of eliminating the “broken back curves” that exist now and constructing a standard horizontal curve. Storm water runoff will be handled by a proposed pond to be located north of the new road alignment, and swales located to the south of the new alignment. Additionally, catch basins and piping will be used to convey excess storm water to the pond. The widening will consist of adding both paved and unpaved shoulders. Specifically, the widening will be a 12 foot lane, a  4 foot paved shoulder, and a 3 foot unpaved stabilized grassed shoulder in each direction. The project is presently scheduled for construction in fiscal year 2010.

View Map Britt Road
Through its Department of Public Works, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners initiated the design to improve of Britt Road between Wolfbranch Road and SR44 in Mount Dora in 2004.  Since the inception, Public Works has progressed with the design and held public meetings seeking input from local residents concerning the proposed improvements.  The proposed typical section consists of an urban section with two 12-foot travel lanes, pedestrian facilities, as well as turn lanes at the north and south terminus. The Lake County Board of County Commissioners has provided direction and approved a typical roadway section for the corridor. Phase II of the design has begun with geotechnical and survey services underway to assist in the determination of the location of the potential ponds needed for the stormwater. Additional information concerning the project can be located at the following ftp site and will be updated periodically: ftp://ftp.rsandh.com

The project will involve changes to the Heim Road, Lakeshore Drive, and Oakland Drive intersections with Old 441. Lakeshore Drive will be converted to a “T” intersection with the elimination of the cross over northbound at Old 441, and Heim Road will also be converted to a true “T” intersection with a widening to accommodate turning traffic off of Old 441. Oakland Drive will be configured as a “right in and right out” turn configuration off of Old 441 westbound. Essentially, access to the north will be handled by Heim Road and Oakland Drive, and access to the south will be handled, as it is now, by Lakeshore Drive. Signalization will be added at both the Lakeshore Drive and Heim Road intersections with Old 441, with the Lakeshore Drive location having a pedestrian cross walk. The project will receive the needed widening and resurfacing from Heim Road to approximately 250 feet east of  Oakland Drive along Old 441. The turn lane configuration at Heim Road will consist of a dedicated left turn lane off of Old 441 and dedicated left and right turn lanes off of Heim Road. The turn lane configuration at Lakeshore Road will consist of a dedicated left turn lane off of Old 441, and a dedicated left and right turn lane off of Lakeshore Drive. The railroad crossing at Lakeshore Drive will be widened to accommodate the new road design and pedestrian traffic. Storm water drainage will be handled by multiple items from existing drainage systems incorporating curb, gutter and catch basins, to added curb and gutter with a small pond added to the north side of the intersection. The project is scheduled for construction in fiscal year 2012.
