    The 318-acre park is divided into two areas. The front 50 acres is being developed into an active recreation area. The remaining acres offer a Florida Scrub-jay restoration area, nature center and access to hiking and nature trails.

    Since 1990, the forest has been managed by the Florida Division of Forestry to protect and maintain the native biological diversity of the forest's ecosystems, while integrating public use of the resources.

    The nature center is a 230-acre wildlife preserve. The preserve protects a wetlands-forest habitat bordering on Trout Lake. The center features a 1,000-foot long boardwalk, interpretive trails and an education center.
