The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, commonly known as the “stimulus bill,” will benefit certain public projects in the Lake County departments of Community Services and Public Works.

The $789 billion bill was approved by the U.S. Congress and then signed into law by the President on Feb. 17, 2009. Listed on this page are up-to-date allocations from the federal stimulus bill to Lake County.

Department of Facilities Development & Management

  • $2,807,500 (Energy Efficient Conservation Block Grant) to install the infrastructure and solar photovoltaic panels above the top level of the new parking garage located on Sinclair Avenue in Tavares, as part of the Phase 2 of Judicial Facility Expansion

Department of Public Works
Road resurfacing projects

  • $2,854,217 for County Road 474 from State Road 33 to U.S. Highway 27
  • $783,000 for County Road 42 from Holmes View Drive to West Fourth Street
  • $428, 214 for County Road 455 from State Road 19 to County Road 561
  • $266,529 for Lake Griffin Road from Lemon Street to Grays Airport Road
  • $264,416 for County Road 448 from Lake Industrial Boulevard to Grand Oak Lane
  • $241,165 for Eagles Nest Road from U.S. Highway 27 to Ridge Road
  • $205,000 for Goose Prairie Road to Emeralda Road to County Road 452
  • $177,437 for County Road 466A (Miller Street) from Cutoff Road to U.S. Highway 27/441
  • $19,030 for Lakeshore Drive from Preston Cove Road to King Fisher Drive
  • $18,837 for County Road 19A from Dodson Cutoff to Azalea Drive

Bridge replacement

  • $2,600,000 for Lois Drive Bridge

Public Transportation Division:

  • $1,051,862 for 14 para-transit vehicles
  • $2,221,942 for facility lease cost, vehicles, bus shelters, electronic fair boxes, mobile data terminals, automatic vehicle locators, automatic passenger counters and software

Department of Growth Management, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Section:

  • $263,083 is additional funds in the 2009 regular CDBG allocation of $968,639. These additional funds can be used for the same types of projects the CDBG is authorized to finance.

Justice Assistance Grant (JAG):

  • $367,790 is not specified as a "stimulus fund," but the County’s allocation increased from $80,000. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) develops programs for which these funds can be utilized. There are seven areas the LCSO can spend these funds:
    • Law enforcement programs
    • Prosecution and court programs
    • Prevention and education programs
    • Corrections and community corrections programs
    • Drug treatment and enforcement programs
    • Planning, evaluation and technology improvement programs
    • Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation)
