The Lake County Historical Museum offers an exciting and informative view of Lake County’s history. Every month, new exhibits are on display and the museum offers a variety of programs for the community’s enjoyment.
The museum is located on the first floor of the Lake County Historic Courthouse, located at 317 W. Main St., Tavares. The museum is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except legal holidays. View our map with driving directions.

George Pratt published the first issue of the Sumter County Advance in Leesburg. This was the first newspaper published in what was later to become Lake County.
