Dr. Diane Kamp teaches a young group of students at the Historical Museum.
The Lake County Historical Museum regularly hosts class visits and tours for local groups. In 2005, about a dozen classes of public, private and home-schooled students and several local groups, including a local chapter of The Red Hat Society, enjoyed guided tours of the museum.
A former elementary school teacher for 17 years, Dr. Diane Kamp, Director of Lake County museums, develops tours and activities for all ages. Groups and classes are often entertained with a museum treasure hunt. In the activity, participants are given clues about certain exhibits in the museum and they in return are asked to answer history questions about some of the exhibits.
“It’s great to see people from Lake County interested in history and the museum,” says Kamp. “The museum helps to show students and local groups that history isn’t all about dates, but there are people and places connected to those dates.
“It also helps to teach them about Lake County history. Some people come here and don’t realize how rich Lake County’s history really is.”
Kamp is available to provide group tours of the museum for nearly any size of gathering. Each group will receive a VIP program in addition to their museum visit. For more information about the museum and to make reservations for a tour, call the Lake County Historical Museum at (352) 343-9600.
There is always something new to see and do at the Lake County Historical Museum, located at 317 W. Main St., Tavares.
