When visiting a new city, the surefire way to find the downtown hot spot for dinner and lunch is to follow the locals. Don’t be alarmed when loyal customers to The Goblin Market Restaurant in Mount Dora, Fla., sneak down a back alley of this historic district.
“We have quite a few customers that have been coming here from the very beginning,” said Denise Beckham, general manager of the establishment, which is currently celebrating its 10th year in business.
Housed in a renovated warehouse, the Goblin Market is tucked behind Donnelly Street in a charming location with a private courtyard and garden patio. Despite its almost-secret location, inside the restaurant the atmosphere is enchanting and romantic with three intimate dining rooms lined with bookcases and modern art.

“If you look around at the décor, we want people to feel like they are in their own dining room,” Beckham said.
While the setting of casual elegance with low lighting and gentle background music sets the tone for the Goblin Market, the menu is anything but tame. Titillating choices of beef, pork, lamb, chicken and seafood highlight the dinner menu.
Choosing between the list of delectable selections is a welcomed challenge. According to Beckham, the Market’s menu is a refreshing mix of ides because of the restaurant’s eclectic culinary team of diverse origins and backgrounds.
Some of the personal favorites of the restaurant’s staff include the Filet Napoleon, two 4-ounce medallions of beef tenderloin layered with fresh spinach, portabella mushrooms, tender shallots, sun dried tomatoes and finished with gorgonzola and porcini bordelaise, and the Potato-Crusted Black Grouper, a fillet of fresh Florida black grouper pan seared, finished alforno and drizzled with tomato oil on a bed of wilted spinach.
In addition to the exciting menu offerings and nightly special selections, the Goblin Market features a comprehensive wine list and full-service lounge upstairs.
