TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community Services, Public Transportation Division is orchestrating a smooth transition between transportation operators.
MV Transportation Inc. began operating July 1 as the new transportation disadvantaged operator in Lake County. Subsequent to the change in service, residents needing to schedule transportation services have to call a new telephone number at (352) 326-2278. The new service operator has also adopted a new name for its Lake County operations, Lake County Connections.
Lake County Connections operates van and bus transportation services that provide door-to-door service to transport individuals regardless of disabilities. The Lake County program provides transportation to medical appointments, jobs, senior centers and shopping for elderly, disabled and low-income citizens.
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners awarded MV Transportation a 4-year, $17-million contract to operate the door-to-door paratransit services on May 3. The company replaces the paratransit services, Lake County Transit, previously offered by LifeStream Behavioral Center, Inc. who had been providing transportation services to Lake County since June 7, 1983.
