TAVARES — Staff from the Lake County departments of Public Works and Environmental Services wish to extend a special “thank you” to all County residents for their collective efforts in disposing of storm debris left behind by three hurricanes.
After issuing a final-storm debris notice on Nov. 1 to residents, dozens of debris-hauling crews readied for one last collection pass. Residents answered the call, setting out the last piles of storm debris in time so the out-of-state workers can return home for the holidays.
The task of hauling more than 600,000 cubic yards of storm debris from road curbsides in Lake County was monumental. Many crews from all over the Southeast worked 12-hour days in transporting the piles of residential storm debris to four strategically located debris-reduction sites in the County.
Residents can dispose of normal yard waste by placing it in bags or cans weighing no more than 50 pounds. Limbs and branches no bigger than 6 inches around and 4 feet in length must be bundled, also weighing no more than 50 pounds. Residential yard waste can also be dropped off at the following locations:
