TAVARES — On Wednesday, March 2, at 9:30 a.m. the American Legion Post 52 Honor Guard will conduct a flag-raising ceremony in front of the Lake County Judicial Center, 550 W. Main St., Tavares.
Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court James C. Watkins will be in attendance for the ceremony along with other County officials. According to Clerk of the Circuit Court, the ceremony is being conducted as the flagpoles at the facility were recently relocated due to the reconfiguration of the parking lot.
The ceremony will include hand and bugle salutes from the uniformed American military veterans from American Legion posts 330 and 52 in Leesburg. The ceremony of posting the colors is a longstanding patriotic tradition.
“We do probably four or five of these a week,” said Dick White, a former commander of the local American Legion post. “We go out to the national cemetery and we do military honors to any honorably discharged veteran for the family that requests it.”
