Lake County honors 61 volunteers with more than 150 hours of service in 2014
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners honored 61 volunteers who contributed over 150 hours of service in 2014 with a special recognition ceremony during the Feb. 24 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The Volunteer Service Awards recognized volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to various county departments and divisions including Public Resources, Public Safety, Community Safety & Compliance to name a few.

Household hazardous waste collection event to be held March 5 in Clermont
The Lake County Solid Waste Division is encouraging Lake County residents to dispose of toxic materials in a safe and environmentally sensitive way at an upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection event. The County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will be on site from 9 a.m. – noon on Thursday, March 5 at Hancock Park, located at 3331 Hancock Road, Clermont.

Oakley Big Bass Tour returns to Harris Chain of Lakes
For the second consecutive year, The Oakley Big Bass Tour will make a splash in Lake County for the Harris Chain Big Bass Classic, to be held Feb. 28 - March 1 at the Hickory Point Recreational Facility, 27341 State Road 19, Tavares. The open format tournament will offer amateur anglers the chance to compete for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes throughout the weekend.

Johns Lake Boat Ramp overflow parking reopens Saturday
The Johns Lake Boat Ramp overflow west parking lot, located at 13620 Lake Blvd. in Winter Garden just over the Lake County line, will reopen Saturday, Feb. 21 after being closed due to construction improvements.

Lake County joins Leesburg in welcoming Coreslab to the new 470 Commerce Park
The city of Leesburg, with the support of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism team, recently signed an agreement with Coreslab, a concrete product company, to expand and move its manufacturing facility from Orlando to Lake County. The company is purchasing 75 acres between County Road 470 and Florida’s Turnpike to develop a state-of-the-art facility that will employ 55 people, with the capacity to expand to a workforce of 100.
