Lake County heightens focus on business development with creation of new Economic Growth Department
Lake County Manager David Heath, announced this week the creation of the new Economic Growth Department, which combines the functions of the former departments of Growth Management and Economic Development & Tourism.

Lake County honors 61 volunteers with more than 150 hours of service in 2014
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners honored 61 volunteers who contributed over 150 hours of service in 2014 with a special recognition ceremony during the Feb. 24 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The Volunteer Service Awards recognized volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to various county departments and divisions including Public Resources, Public Safety, Community Safety & Compliance to name a few.

Household hazardous waste collection event to be held March 5 in Clermont
The Lake County Solid Waste Division is encouraging Lake County residents to dispose of toxic materials in a safe and environmentally sensitive way at an upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection event. The County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will be on site from 9 a.m. – noon on Thursday, March 5 at Hancock Park, located at 3331 Hancock Road, Clermont.

Oakley Big Bass Tour returns to Harris Chain of Lakes
For the second consecutive year, The Oakley Big Bass Tour will make a splash in Lake County for the Harris Chain Big Bass Classic, to be held Feb. 28 - March 1 at the Hickory Point Recreational Facility, 27341 State Road 19, Tavares. The open format tournament will offer amateur anglers the chance to compete for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes throughout the weekend.

UF/IFAS Extension in Lake County to host Extension Dean and Director Dr. Nick Place
The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County will host Dr. Nick Place, Dean and Director of UF/IFAS Extension, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5 at Bob Norris Auditorium, Lake County Agriculture Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road., Tavares.
