Lake County officials prepare for possible flooding; sand bags offered at Fire Station 10 in Astor
Lake County officials are preparing for possible flooding as a river flood warning will remain in effect for the St. Johns River in the Astor area for the week. Residents may obtain up to 20 sand bags from Lake County Fire Station 10, located at 23023 State Road 40, Astor, to help prevent flooding. Residents must bring their own shovels and fill their own bags.

Lake County to roll out new curbside collection service on Oct. 6
Lake County is rolling out its new residential curbside garbage collection system on Monday, Oct. 6 and shifting to a “1-1-1” service consisting of once-per-week trash, one-per-week recycling and once-per-week yard waste pick-up. As part of the new program, all residents in unincorporated areas of the county who currently receive collection services from the county are being issued free trash and recycling carts, which all residents will be required to use beginning the week of Oct. 6.
