Duke Energy has finished the last step of the process in the Duke Energy Site Readiness Program for Lake County’s Florida Energy and Aerospace Technology (FEAT) Park, which in turn will advance the site for further development opportunities by businesses.

Commission to recognize valuable contribution of emergency personnel during ‘National EMS Week’
— National EMS Week provides an opportunity to honor the men and women who serve on the front line of pre-hospital emergency medical care—telecommunicators, paramedics and emergency medical technicians. “EMS: One Mission … One Team” is this year’s theme. As part of National EMS Week, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners will recognize the contribution of EMS professionals by issuing a proclamation which will be presented at the regular Board meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 21 in the Board Chambers of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.

Prescription drugs, hazardous waste to be collected in Groveland
The Lake County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with the city of Groveland’s Police Department, is encouraging Lake County residents to dispose of unwanted medications and toxic materials in a safe and environmentally sensitive way – helping to prevent improper use by others – at an upcoming Prescription Drugs and Household Hazardous Waste Collection. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 23 in the parking lot of the Groveland Police Department, 408 Orange St., Groveland.

County offices, libraries, LakeXpress, all solid-waste operations to close for Memorial Day
All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector will be closed Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day. Offices will reopen Tuesday, May 28.
All Lake County Solid Waste residential collection services will be suspended Monday and resume Tuesday.

Animal Services suspends use of night-drop kennels during state health department’s rabies alert
Animal Services Division has been required to temporarily suspend the use of the night-drop kennels that residents can use to give up pets for adoption. The suspension will be effective through July 13, which is 60 days from the date of issuance.
