TAVARES — The Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST), in cooperation with the Lake County Department of Public Works, law enforcement agencies and Lake Square Mall, is hosting a 2005 Back-to-School Safety Fair on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lake Square Mall, 10401 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg.
An annual event, the safety fair provides families an opportunity to prepare for the school year by offering several important safety programs including bicycle and helmet safety, a child seat safety checkpoint, free school immunizations, child identification and other safety displays and demonstrations.
Last year, about 1,600 residents turned out for the safety fair. The 2005 event coincides with the State of Florida’s back-to-school tax free holiday week prior to the start of the new school year. Along with the safety demonstrations, children can meet “Sir Gus” the kissing camel or experience a rock climbing wall. The 2005 Back-to-School Safety Fair is sponsored by Lake Nissan and the 18th Masonic District.
“We encourage Lake County families to attend this event to safely prepare for the start of the 2005 school year,” said Noble Olasimbo, Chairman of the CTST.
The Lake County CTST is a multi-jurisdictional agency with cooperation between Lake County, its municipalities, other organizations and concerned citizens. The CTST uses a multi-disciplinary approach to solve roadway safety problems in Lake County and is comprised of individuals representing engineering, law enforcement, emergency services, traffic-safety education and the public.
