For immediate release - Nov. 4, 2004
TAVARES — The steering committee of the Lake County Local Mitigation Strategy Task Force will be meeting Friday, Nov. 5, as the task force continues the process of updating the Local Mitigation Strategy first established in 1999.
The committee will be meeting from 10 a.m. to noon in room 233 of the Lake County Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main Ave., Tavares. The public is invited to attend and provide comment, as the committee will consider approving mitigation initiatives that have been brought forward by local municipalities and the County.
The Local Mitigation Strategy is a countywide plan developed with the assistance of local and county government agencies, businesses and residents, to help mitigate risk from natural and manmade disasters. This initiative started in September 2003 and will result in a formal plan in December 2004.
The Local Mitigation Strategy will serve as a guide for directing resources to best serve citizens before, during and after a disaster. Certain initiatives identified by the Local Mitigation Strategy that, if corrected now, would lessen the future impact of disasters on the community.
