TAVARES — The Lake County Local Mitigation Strategy Task Force will be meeting Monday, July 27, at 3 p.m. in training room A of the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares, as it continues the process of updating the Local Mitigation Strategy first established in 1999.
The public is invited to attend and provide comment, as the committee will review the preliminary draft written to date and the initiatives that have been brought forward by local municipalities and the County.
The Local Mitigation Strategy is a countywide plan developed with the assistance of local and county government agencies, businesses and residents to help mitigate risk from natural and manmade disasters. This initiative will result in an updated plan, which was last revised in 2004. Initiatives identified within the Local Mitigation Strategy, if implemented before disasters, can lessen the potential impacts.
Lake County is one of 11 counties throughout the state fortunate enough to receive assistance with the plan revision through the efforts of a Florida State University graduate assistant program. This was made possible through a partnership between the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Florida State University.
