TAVARES — Lake County Park Rangers will lead a nature hike on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 8 to 10 a.m. exploring plants and wildlife at PEAR Park, located at 5336 University Ave., Leesburg.
Recently, a Blue Grosbeak was sighted in the park’s meadow restoration area and a Florida Scrub-Jay has been seen checking out the park’s scrub restoration. Other birds, such as Meadow Larks, Northern Bobwhites and Bluebirds, are numerous and nest on the property.
PEAR Park’s butterfly garden and Meadow restoration area will soon be in fall color. According to park rangers, the butterflies love the heat of summer and their numbers are peaking. Photo opportunities are available with nearly 50 butterfly species documented at the park.
The 2-mile hike is over flat and even terrain. Participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes. Reservations are required. For more information or reservations, call the Lake County Parks & Trails Division at (352) 253-4950.
