TAVARES — Lake County Commissioner Welton Cadwell was reappointed this month to vice chair of the National Association of Counties (NACo) steering committee for community and economic development.

CADWELL
The reappointment by NACo President Valerie Brown, on the Board of Supervisors from Sonoma County, Calif., marks the fifth time Cadwell will serve on the economic development committee. In 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008, he was appointed to the economic development steering committee and in 2006, 2007 and 2008 to the 120-member NACo Board of Directors.
“I am greatly honored by the confidence shown in me by NACo President Brown,” said Commissioner Cadwell. “I look forward to working with my peers on the steering committee in exploring viable solutions to all issues related to economic development.”
NACo’s 11 steering committees form the policy-making arm of the association. The Community and Economic Development Steering Committee focuses on general community development and redevelopment, housing programs, subdivision regulations, building and housing codes, public works and economic development. The work of the steering committee, if approved, becomes part of NACo’s efforts in representing the best interests of counties nationwide in Washington D.C.
First elected as the District 5 representative to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners in 1992, Cadwell has also served as president of the Florida Association of Counties Board of Directors in 2005-2006. He is currently Chairman of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, a position he has held on seven different occasions during his tenure as county commissioner.
