TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety would like to remind all County residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios for daylight-saving time on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday. Local fire and emergency management officials encourage homeowners to replace batteries in their smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios when they change their clocks because it provides a convenient reminder.
While it is recommended that batteries be replaced in smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios semi-annually, these devices should also be tested at least once a month. The proper maintenance of smoke detectors and NOAA weather radio can significantly increase the chances of surviving a house fire or natural disaster. Coupled with a family escape plan, operational smoke detectors and NOAA weather radios can save lives.
