TAVARES – On Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, the Lake County Commission approved a proclamation that designated Feb. 19 through Feb. 25 as “Hickory Point Park Week,” as the month of February marks the 20th anniversary of the grand opening of Hickory Point Park, located at 27341 State Road 19 in Tavares.
To commemorate the park’s anniversary, a myriad of events and activities have been scheduled, for the public to take part in as they explore this historic park.
There will be an ‘Introduction to Kayaking Certification’ course on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. In this course, participants will learn basic paddle skills, paddle strokes and water safety information. There is a $20 fee, per person, and all equipment will be provided. Each course is limited to 10 participants, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Other events corresponding with the celebration include the ‘Ibini Tera Lakes Clean Up,’ bird watching and geocaching. In addition, admission to the park will be free for the entire month of February.
