TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of April 8-14. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• Landscaping with Natives is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
With guidance from Peter Mueller and Wendy Poag, participants will have an opportunity to explore the volunteer-maintained Native Plant Gardens and Meadow Restoration. They will also learn valuable information about incorporating native plants into their landscape.
• On Friday, April 13, a Paddling Adventure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sabel Bluff Preserve, located on County Road 44 in Leesburg.
In this adventure, participants will take a brief nature hike through the preserve, before hopping into canoes and kayaks for a short trip up the shoreline. This trip is for beginners and personal boats will not be permitted.
• On Saturday, April 14, Exploring Your Park is scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. at Twin Lakes Park, located at 35303 County Road 473 in Leesburg.
Park Rangers will lead participants during a casual hike on a paved trail and boardwalk, where they will learn about ponds, plants, birds and other wildlife. This is great for those with children in strollers and individuals with mobility issues.
All three events are free and would-be participants are encouraged to make reservations, as space is limited.
