TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of April 15-21. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• Two Beginning Birder classes are scheduled for Wednesday, April 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
This is the fourth class in the Beginning Birder series, in which participants will learn the intricacies of identifying various types of birds.
• On Thursday, April 19, Upland Prowl is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pasture Reserve, located on Lake Erie Road in Groveland.
With guidance from Parks & Trails staff, participants will take an exciting and educational excursion through the Green Swamp.
• On Friday, April 20, the Monthly Bird and Butterfly Survey is scheduled from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
Volunteers are encouraged to assist Parks Rangers in monitoring the site’s diversity, as restoration and land management initiatives are conducted. Survey-takers must have their own binoculars and field guides.
• On Saturday, April 21, a Beginning Birder Class Field Trip is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
On this class field trip, participants will take their knowledge from the classroom to the field for some hands-on learning and application.
All events are free and would-be participants are encouraged to make reservations, as space is limited.
