LADY LAKE – The Lake County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with Covanta Energy, Inc., will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event for Lake County residents on Thursday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Lady Lake Public Library parking lot, located at 225 W. Guava St. in Lady Lake.
This event will provide residents with an easy and efficient way to dispose of waste products such as lawn and gardening materials, photo and swimming pool chemicals, paint and related products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs and small propane tanks. Materials such as infectious waste, solvents, chemical laboratory waste and radioactive waste are not permitted.
Lake County has teamed up with Covanta Energy, Inc. in an effort to effectively reduce the amount of mercury that is introduced into the environment. Mercury awareness and collection programs are vital tools that inform and educate the public about mercury-bearing items and ways they should be properly discarded. Covanta Energy, Inc. will also give away $5 Walmart gift cards to residents who turn-in items containing mercury.
