TAVARES – The Lake County Extension is inviting residents to take part in training for its Master Food and Nutrition Volunteer Program on Wednesdays, Sept. 5 through Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a joint training, with portions to be held at the Lake, Orange and Seminole County Extension offices.
The program is designed to provide in-depth food and nutrition training in areas such as nutrition and health throughout the lifecycle, chronic disease management, food preparation techniques and food safety.
Those who complete the program will be given the title of “Master Food and Nutrition Volunteer,” and will be required to give a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service to Lake County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences programs within a year’s time.
Master Food and Nutrition Volunteers can give their volunteer hours by assisting with agent demonstrations and educational projects, teaching nutrition classes, working at health fairs and helping with the 4-H youth program.
The application deadline is Aug. 10 and the fee, which covers training materials and supplies, is $100. Space is limited and would-be participants are encouraged to register early.
