Lake County Emergency Management to host Severe Weather Awareness Day in Clermont

RELEASE DATE: January 9, 2017

CLERMONT – The Lake County Emergency Management Division is inviting the public to Severe Weather Awareness Day, a community outreach event seeking to promote preparedness for all types of weather emergencies. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Lake-Sumter State College South Lake Campus at 1250 N. Hancock Road, Clermont.

Local public safety agencies will join county staff in displaying vehicles and equipment normally used during weather disasters. Participants at the event will include the Lake County Public Safety Department, the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lake EMS, the Lake County Animal Shelter, LEASH Inc., the Lake County Storm Water Division and Florida 511. Emergency Management will provide information about family preparedness plans, tornadoes, shelters, emergency pet safety and NOAA weather radios.

The event is being held in recognition of Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is Jan. 23–27.

“Generally, the most severe tornadoes impact Florida between January and April,” said Tommy Carpenter, manager of the Lake County Lake County Emergency Management Division. “Severe Weather Awareness Day seeks to educate residents and encourage them to be prepared for potentially dangerous weather conditions that could arise at any time during the coming months.”
