Lake County to celebrate National Pollution Prevention Week on Sept. 22

EUSTIS — As part of the nationally recognized Pollution Prevention Week, Sept. 17-23, the Board of County Commissioners has shown their support by proclaiming this week in Lake County as P2 Week. Additionally, Lake County Department of Environmental Services is hosting a "Let’s Lasso Pollution Expo" on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Tractor Supply Company, located at 100 Ardice Ave. in Eustis.

The national theme for Pollution Prevention Week centers on taking the next step to a sustainable environment. The Environmental Protection Agency provides the following tips to preventing waste:

Determine the waste generated and identify ways to reduce consumption
Practice using water and energy resources more efficiently
Purchase durable, long-lasting materials
Improve vehicle mileage, use less gas, carpool and use public transportation, such as LakeXpress

Along with staff from various Lake County departments and the Lake County Health Department, volunteers from the Florida SASS Mounted Shooters, Cowboy Mounted Shooters and Wav Lake will stress the importance of recycling, proper disposal of household hazardous waste, the proper use of fertilizers, waste reduction and strategies to learning to live green.

In addition, the expo will feature a display of hybrid and flex-fuel vehicles. Leesburg radio station WLBE (790 AM) will also be broadcasting live from the event.
