FERNDALE — Lake County park rangers will lead a bird and butterfly walk on Saturday, June 21, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Ferndale Preserve, located on County Road 455 about 5 miles south of the intersection with County Road 561.

The 192-acre preserve is located on Lake Apopka and offers picturesque vistas and a plethora of wildlife. The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is constructing improvements at Ferndale Preserve, including hiking trails, equestrian trails, parking lot and observation tower, and is planning to open the property to the public this year.

During the guided nature hike, Lake County's park rangers will be identifying birds, butterflies and other wildlife that frequent the preserve, such as the Florida Bobcat and Gopher Tortoise. The 2-mile hike is over hilly and sometimes uneven terrain. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Park rangers also recommend bringing binoculars, field guides, insect repellent, sunscreen, water and a snack.
