ASTOR — The Lake County Parks & Trails Division reopened Wednesday morning two public boat ramps on Butler and Pearl streets in the unincorporated community of Astor.
The boat ramps at 55400 Butler St. and 25140 E. Pearl St. have been closed since Aug. 29 due to flooding of the St. Johns River. According to the National Weather Service, the St. Johns River fell below flood stage of 2.8 feet last night.
“The water level on the St. Johns River at Astor is at 2.75 feet as of 9:30 a.m. this morning,” said Tommy Carpenter, Emergency Operations Manager with the Lake County Emergency Management Division. “We're all clear to remove the barricades at the boat ramps and parking lot in Astor. Now that water levels have fallen below 2.8 feet in Astor, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission rule that requires low-idle, no-wake traffic on the St. Johns River has been lifted too.”
