TAVARES — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will hold a series of public workshops, beginning on Tuesday, May 26, at 1 p.m., to discuss the draft of the County’s comprehensive plan, titled Planning Horizon 2030.
Additional workshops are scheduled for June 9 at 9 a.m., June 16 at 1 p.m. and July 7 at 1 p.m. All workshops will be held in room 233 of the Lake County Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares. Each workshop will be about 2 ½ hours long with the last 30 minutes reserved for public comments.
“The Board will not be making any final decisions during the workshops,” said Amye King, Director of the Lake County Department of Growth Management. “The primary purpose of these workshops is for the Board to discuss elements of the comprehensive plan and to review staff comments on the plan.”
At the first workshop on May 26, the Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to discuss the future land-use element of the comprehensive plan draft and the first 35 items of the staff comment report. Within each comprehensive plan are elements. An element is similar to a chapter in a novel as each element addresses one specific area of growth management, such as transportation, capital improvements or land use.
The draft comprehensive plan and staff comments report are available to review on the County Commission’s agenda Web page. For more information about the scheduled County Commission workshops, call the Lake County Department of Growth Management at (352) 343-9632.
