Deadline to register for Lake County’s green symposium is June 1

MOUNT DORA — With about a dozen spots remaining, Lake County is extending the deadline to Monday, June 1, to register for the “Professionals Turning Green Symposium” on June 11-12 at Lakeside Inn, located at 100 N. Alexander St., Mount Dora.

The purpose of the “Professionals Turning Green Symposium” is for professionals in varying fields to share ideas about conserving and maximizing natural resources. An agenda of presentations at the symposium will cover a variety of topics including green energy, green enterprise, green government, green design & construction, green lodging and green municipal solid waste. The intended audience for the symposium is entrepreneurs, land-use planners, engineers, architects, hoteliers, civil engineers, solid-waste staff, and public health & government officials.

In addition to the informative presentations, the green symposium features a tour of the new LEED-designed government facility in downtown Tavares. After the presentations conclude Thursday afternoon, Inland Lakes Railway will transport participants by train to Tavares for the building tour. After the tour and train ride, green symposium participants will enjoy a banquet with keynote speaker Linda Chapin, Director of the Metropolitan Center for Regional Studies at the University of Central Florida. After the final presentations on Friday morning, author and journalist, Cynthia Barnett, who penned Mirage: Florida and the Vanishing Water of the Eastern U.S., will be the guest speaker at a luncheon.

The “Professionals Turning Green Symposium” is sponsored by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Lake County Green Team, Lakeside Inn, Covanta Energy, Lake County Health Department, Shaw Industries, Waste Management, General Works Roofing, the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Planning & Zoning Association, First Green Bank and Inland Lakes Railway.
