TAVARES — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will conduct its first-ever public meeting for the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) planning area when it presents its tentative five-year work program for fiscal years 2005-06 to 2009-10.
Citizens are encouraged to attend the public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 5:30 p.m. in the Lake County Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
FDOT staff will present the transportation projects that they expect to be able to fund within the new Work Program for the Lake and Sumter counties planning area. Several proposed projects in the Work Program include widening U.S. Highway to six lanes from Perkins Street to State Road 44 and widening State Road 50 to six lanes from Hancock Road to the Orange county line.
The Lake-Sumter MPO was established on Feb. 25, 2004, after the 2000 Census determined the Leesburg-Eustis Urbanized Area and the Lady Lake Urbanized Area each had exceeded a population of 50,000. The purpose of the MPO is to provide a forum for a coordinated, comprehensive and continual transportation planning process and is responsible for the planning of several modes of transportation.
