TAVARES — Lake County will host a public meeting at Umatilla City Hall, 1 S. Central Ave., on Monday, Dec. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m. to solicit community input on the design and facilities for a new 100-acre park to be built just east of Umatilla on County Road 450.
The meeting will determine the needs of the community for development of Lake County’s first sports complex. The park is expected to feature softball, soccer and football fields as well as traditional park amenities such as a picnic area and a playground.
“We’re excited about having the input of the community on how this park should be designed, and we are pleased about quickly moving forward with the project,” said County Commissioner Welton Cadwell.
The land for the community park in northeast Lake County was recently purchased, after Board approval last month, using pari-mutuel funds. The funds are collected at racetracks across the state and distributed to counties for funding of community improvements. Impact fees and other sources of revenues are expected to be used in developing the park during this fiscal year.
The community park is consistent with the recently adopted Lake County Parks and Recreation Master Plan as the need for this type of facility was determined through public meetings held last year to create the master plan.
County staff and HHI INC., a contracted park-designing firm, will conduct the meeting. For more information, call Lake County Parks and Trails division at (352) 343-6625.
