TAVARES — Lake County Commissioner Welton Cadwell was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Housing Subcommittee of the Community and Economic Development Steering Committee.
“This is a great opportunity for us in Lake County to not only have more representation in Tallahassee but also in Washington,” Cadwell said. “I appreciate this appointment from newly elected NACo President and Umatilla County, Ore., Commissioner Bill Hansell.”
Elected to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners in 1992, Cadwell has been appointed to several prominent positions in the past year. In June 2005, Cadwell began serving as President of the Florida Association of Counties.
In October 2004, the FAC Executive Committee appointed Cadwell to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board of Directors. He joins Sarasota County Commissioner David Mills as the two county commission representatives from Florida on the 120-member Board.
The NACo Housing Subcommittee of the Community and Economic Development Steering Committee focuses on general community development and redevelopment, housing programs, subdivision regulations, building and housing codes, public works and economic development.
“Commissioner Cadwell will be a strong advocate for counties on Capitol Hill,” said NACo Executive Director Larry Naake.
