TAVARES — Lake County Board of County Commission and Lake County Clerk of Courts employees have gathered more than 1,000 pounds of nonperishable goods to help replenish local food banks.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the shelves of many local food banks became depleted. Lake County employees offered to help by conducting a two-week emergency food drive. Hundreds of employees pitched in for the effort, collecting various items such as canned soups and vegetables, and basic toiletries.
The drive will conclude Friday, Sept. 23, as the mountain of supplies collected in the rotunda of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares, will be shipped off to local food banks.
