TAVARES — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners Web site (www.lakecountyfl.gov) was recognized Tuesday by the Web Marketing Association for outstanding achievement in Web site development.
Lake County was one of 2,100 Web sites from 33 different countries to enter the Ninth Annual WebAward Competition for Web site development. The award is Lake County’s first for its recently revamped homepage.
“Earning the standard of excellence award from the Web Marketing Association indicates the hard work the Information Outreach team put into the redeveloped County Web site,” said Kelly LaFollette, Information Outreach Manager.
Unveiled in October 2004, staff from Information Outreach spent about six months redesigning the site. Staff of the Information Outreach Section is: Magda Contreras, Graphic Artist; Elizabeth Heine, Webmaster; Chris Patton, Communications Coordinator; and Erikk Ross, Internet Applications Developer.
Interactive features of the Web site include the ability to apply for open Lake County positions, to view open County bids and to examine all permit activity and the status of individual permits. In addition, the site features more tourism related features such as an online events calendar, digital postcards, screensavers and streaming video.
Since its arrival other features have been added to the site, including an entire section devoted to the comprehensive plan process, a new dining guide featuring all the restaurants in Lake County and an online magazine titled “Hometown Highlights.”
According to the Web Marketing Association, entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology. A complete list of the winning sites can be found at the WebAward Web site at www.webaward.org.
