About the Artist:
Claudia Lee Allen grew up in Maryland and moved to Florida in 1991.
By the age of five, her love of art was strong. She was drawing and using watercolors on a regular basis. Her parents and elementary schools teachers recognized her ability and nurtured her interest and talent.
In 1957, her father learned of art classes offered at The Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. At the age of eight, she attended Saturday morning classes and produced her very first oil painting.
Corcoran did not teach her how-to draw or paint; rather a much more important lesson. There is no right or wrong way - Develop your own style because everyone experiences art from their own perspective.
During high school, Claudia’s love of art continued. Her first love remained watercolors, however on occasion, she worked with colored pencil, oils and acrylics.
After high school she entered the work force and began a demanding career so her artwork was set aside. She missed the creativeness and the fulfillment painting brought to her life.
In 2000, she and her husband moved to Leesburg, FL where she joined the Leesburg Art Association. The club sparked her long ago desire to utilize and enjoy her artistic abilities.
Being mostly self-taught she never referred to herself as an artist until she won an award for one of her watercolors in a Leesburg Art Association show. People introduced her as the artist of her award winning painting. The members of the Leesburg Art Association made her realize she is an artist.
Claudia, the artist, now makes time to enjoy painting and drawing. She is now working on a new project - creating a new career that will allow her the opportunity to expand “being an artist” to being employed as an artist.
She currently lives in Leesburg, FL with her husband and several cats who conspire to demonstrate their own artistic flair by “helping” her paint.
