 Programming and Application Support Services

Enterprise Support consists of programmers and analysts responsible for improving the efficiency of county offices using technology.

One of the main goals of Enterprise Support involves process redesign. Rather than simply increasing speed through automation, they work closely with other areas to find enhancements that better serve the citizens of Lake County. This is done through an integrated approach that allows them to leverage the existing Information Technology infrastructure and cloud-based services as much as possible.

Why automate?
Improving upon an existing process by using automation is a great way to reduce the time and effort it takes people to perform repetitive tasks. Automation can also help reduce the amount of errors, and thus the costs involved with a task.

An example of such automation is PAWS, which stands for Procurement Automated Workflow System. This application was development to eliminate paper forms and allows all procurement-related processes to flow through an approval process, providing historical record-keeping for all approvals and rejections.

Enterprise Support is also responsible for the administration and data analysis of the County's Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This includes the development of map-based applications to assist County business functions that in turn allow accurate data presentation to the citizens as well as provide an easy to use forum for public engagement on specific topics.

An example of web-based GIS applications is Mosquito Spraying Map to show citizens where spraying will occur. It allows citizens to request spraying or opt-out of spraying. Parks and Trails utilizes a GIS application that staff can access in the field allowing them to effectively inventory and monitor the County’s recreational amenities throughout the county, be that a park bench in North Lake Community Park or the entire South Lake Trail.

Enterprise Support is also responsible for maintaining the installed applications and databases throughout the county to ensure the business functions they support are running smoothly.
